Tag an individual animal
- Raise binoculars and let the target animal be identified.
- Aim at that individual and use your firing input. With the default PC layout, try the left mouse button.
- If a tap leaves a fixed location marker rather than an animal tag, keep the identified animal in view and try holding the input.
- Watch the animal move. The tag should follow it; a marker that stays in one place is not tracking the animal.
Use your own firing binding if you changed controls. There is no need to invent a precise hold duration. Repeating the animal-tag input can remove the tag.
Animal tags and waypoints serve different jobs
| Marker | Use | How to recognize it |
|---|---|---|
| Animal tag | Keep track of one individual in a herd | Moves with the animal |
| Position waypoint | Record a route or location | Stays at the selected location |
| Custom map marker | Choose an icon for a place | Edited under CUSTOM MARKER |
PC middle mouse button places a position waypoint. On the map, CUSTOM MARKER offers seven icons or CLEAR. Marker colours can vary with state, so movement is the more useful test than a particular blue, white or grey colour.
If tagging does not work
Recheck the firing binding, identification and whether your aim is on the animal. Binocular zoom and animal tagging are separate functions. Do not change save difficulty solely to fix a tag: Easy footage and later PC reports support this input, while current Hard settings may differ. A reported 400-metre distance is not a reliable universal cutoff.
